All is set for ICOPHIL-9. With the theme “The Philippines and the World,” the 9th ICOPHIL will be held at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, Michigan USA, October 28-30, 2012. Featured speakers this year are Rodel Lasco, one of four Filipino scientists who are members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Jason Magabo Perez, a performance artist who will enact the “The Passion of Hulk Hogancito” in which the title character seeks to overcome, with humor and lyricism, the tragedy of his mother’s experiences as one of two Filipina nurses framed by the FBI for multiple murders of patients at the Ann Arbor VA hospital in the 1970s.
Conference venue has moved to the Kellogg Center at the MSU campus and begins at noon, 28 October Sunday and ends on Tuesday evening, 30 October. Optional post-conference activities on 31 October include a visit to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where considerable Philippine historical, anthropological, and manuscript collections are located, as well as opportunities to explore research collaborations with Michigan State University faculty.
